Rapper Nelly Arrested
Rapper Nelly, who also serves as a minority owner for the Charlotte Hornets, was arrested on felony drug charges on Saturday in Tennessee.
According to arrest records obtained by WSMV in Nashville, the hip-hop star was taken into custody when police stopped his tour bus and inspected it after smelling marijuana.
Inside, police found methamphetamine, marijuana, other drug-related materials and handguns. Nelly, whose legal name is Cornell Haynes, was then charged with felony possession of drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In a statement released to Jethro Mullen of CNN, Scott Rosenblum, Nelly's attorney, said he was "extremely confident that when the facts come out, Nelly will not be associated with the contraband that was allegedly discovered." Rosenblum claims "there had been 15-20 people that had access to the bus prior to the stop."
The Associated Press reports Nelly was released on $10,000 bond and is due in court June 19 to face his charges.
The Hornets have not released a statement at this time.
