Biafra! Biafra!...MASSOB gives Abia CP 48 hours to release arrested members
The group’s Information Coordinator, Mr Ansalem Ogbonna, issued the ultimatum, while decrying alleged harassment, brutality and incarceration of their members by the police...Ogbonna alleged that last Saturday, the commissioner led a team of combined security operatives and invaded their office, arrested 12 MASSOB members and carted away documents.
Speaking at the Umuahia North region office, he called on the Police boss to, “make sure that they return all that they removed from our office within 48 hours and release all our members unconditionally.”
In a related development, Abia North zonal leader of MASSOB, Pastor Evans Okoronkwo, has narrated how members in the zone were able to beat police security to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the pro-Biafra group on Sunday, at its Arochukwu regional headquarters in Abia State.
Okoronkwo told newsmen in Umuahia that he succeeded in holding the celebration without attracting the wrath of the security agencies...“On Saturday, members from all over Abia North, Isuikwuato, Umunneochi, Bende Uzuakoli, Ohafia Item , Nkporo started converging on the Abia North regional headquarters in Arochukwu, to make sure that the anniversary celebration holds on Sunday.
“The movement to Arochukwu made police to know that their threat would not make any meaning to us, because we were determined to hold the anniversary. Based on that, combined team of security operatives in Abia State, which include the army, police , DSS, Civil Defence and many others started patrolling from place to place, within the Biafran territories in the area, where we had scheduled to hold the celebration.
“We shifted to another venue, when they least expected it and before they could find out where we were, we had concluded our celebration, which lasted over three hours, having thanked God, entertained ourselves, and took photographs of the celebration”
